Top fill design is easy to use, you can just remove the lid and fill with the hose. No tipping upside down or screwing parts on and off all the time. I suggest periodically dismantling and cleaning the unit to prevent hard water and algae build up from obstructing the float system. If you have any problems with it not working correctly, it is always solved by taking it apart and cleaning it.
