Local Pickup Rules & Instructions
PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY AND DO NOT GO PAST THE GATE.
When You Arrive
Park in the driveway and do not drive past the gate. Keep kids and pets inside your vehicle. There is no public bathroom on the farm, but there is a Dunkin with a bathroom and a playground just up the road.
Stay near your vehicle and text the number on the sign with your name, order number, and let me know you are here. Please be patient as I may be helping other customers, but I will be out with your birds soon.
Strict Biosecurity
I do not allow the public onto my back farm with the birds as this is a major biosecurity issue. All birds will be brought out directly to you.
Yard Salers (Birds Available Today)
If you are coming to see who is available today, be prepared to text your request—including hatch dates—when you arrive to the phone number posted in the driveway. This isn't the time to chit-chat before getting your birds; please have your request ready. You are held to the same policies as preorders, so I highly suggest you read my policies and research the breeds before arriving.
Scheduled Preorders
Preorders must be picked up on the scheduled pickup date or the order WILL BE canceled and the deposit forfeited. No birds are held until a 50% deposit is paid and confirmed. You will be sent a link to schedule your pickup time after the payment has been processed.
Payment at Pickup: If there is a balance due, bring cash to pay when picking up. I do not accept credit cards on the farm.
Bring Boxes or Crates
- 2-3 Month Old Pullets: Usually the size of a grapefruit. A cat crate is ideal.
- Under 2 Weeks Old: Usually about the size of a skinny baseball. A small box is ideal, not a crate. Fresh chicks need to be kept warm on the ride home.
If you forget, I have boxes available for $5 each (fits chicks or up to 2 pullets).
A Quick Note on Care
- Fresh Chicks: Need a brooder temperature at 95°F (lowered each week) and should be fed a chick starter feed until 8 weeks old.
- 8 Weeks and Older: At 4 weeks old, birds are moved out to a coop without heat, but I still make sure they go in the coop at night or on chilly days. A healthy, fully-feathered 8-week-old bird should be able to handle snow—if it gets snowed on, it should just fluff it off and be fine. If you have not already, they should definitely no longer be provided heat as it can mess with their natural thermoregulation abilities. At this age, they are switched to a chick grower crumble until they start laying (closer to 6 months old).
